We created a program called NewBase? We wanted families to be able to teach their children how to use a computer without them having to be exposed to the internet. See below for more information and how to download NewBase. If you prefer to just use your browser and the internet, the single HTML app files at the bottom of the page work in any browser, not just NewBase.
Why We Created NewBase?
When our family began homeschooling, we ran into a frustrating problem with computers and learning tools.
Most educational software today requires constant internet access, user accounts, logins, subscriptions, and cloud tracking. Even tools designed for children often require browsers, apps, and platforms that collect data or expose students to distractions and online content we did not want in our learning environment.
We wanted our children to benefit from computers — typing, learning programs, interactive exercises, and educational tools — without needing to connect them to the internet or create accounts with large technology companies.
So we began creating simple learning tools that could run entirely offline. Over time we realized we needed a simple way to organize and launch these tools on a computer without relying on a web browser. That is why we built NewBase.
NewBase acts like a very simple launcher for offline learning tools. It allows families to run educational programs stored directly on their computer without needing the internet, logins, or accounts.
What NewBase Does
NewBase is a lightweight application that allows you to open and manage small offline programs created as HTML files. These programs run locally on your computer, meaning they do not require internet access and do not send data anywhere. Think of NewBase as a simple hub that lets you run small learning apps directly from your computer.
With NewBase you can:
The Learning Apps Inside NewBase
The programs that run inside NewBase are written as HTML files.
Most people associate HTML with websites, but HTML can also be used to create small programs that run locally on a computer.
An HTML learning app might include things like:
Because these programs are just files stored on your computer, they can run completely offline and do not require accounts, subscriptions, or internet access.
Families can also create their own HTML apps or download learning packs that contain multiple tools. NewBase simply provides the launcher that lets you run and organize these programs easily.
This page shares tools, programs, and learning resources created by our family for our own homeschooling use and made available to other families as a free resource.

Step 1: macOS Download
Step 2: Move to Applications
Step 3: First Time Opening on macOS
Because NewBase is an independently shared app and not from the App Store, macOS may warn you the first time you open it.
If that happens:
Step 4: If macOS Blocks It
If you see a message saying the app cannot be opened:
Important Note
NewBase is designed for local offline use.
It was created by families and volunteers and is not backed by a large software company.

What You Need
NewBase allows families to run offline learning apps without needing the internet. Once installed, NewBase can open HTML learning apps, import learning packs, and run simple programs directly from your computer.
Step 1 — Download the file
Click the download link for NewBase for Windows (.zip) and save the file to your computer. Most browsers will automatically save the file in your Downloads folder.
Step 2 — Extract the ZIP file
The file you downloaded is a ZIP archive, which means it needs to be unpacked before you can use it.
Open your Downloads folder.
Right-click the downloaded NewBase.zip file and select Extract All.
Click Extract and Windows will create a new folder containing the program.
Step 3 — Open the NewBase folder
Open the folder that was created when the ZIP file was extracted. Inside the folder you will see the NewBase application file.
Step 4 — Run NewBase
Double-click the NewBase.exe file to start the program. NewBase will open and display the start screen. No installation or internet connection is required.
First-Time Security Message (Windows)
The first time you open NewBase, Windows may show a security message saying that Windows protected your PC. This happens because the program is not signed by a commercial software certificate. If this message appears, click More info, then select Run anyway to open the program.
What You Can Do With NewBase
Once NewBase opens, you can run HTML learning apps offline, import learning packs, upload your own HTML learning tools, view HTML pages without saving them, and open PDF documents. Example learning packs can be downloaded from iteratehudson.com. These packs allow families to download learning
tools once and use them offline anytime.
Where NewBase Stores Your Apps
NewBase creates a small folder on your computer where your learning apps are stored. The program manages this automatically, so you normally do not need to interact with the folder directly.
Removing NewBase
If you want to remove NewBase from your computer, simply delete the NewBase application file you downloaded. Your learning apps will remain on your computer unless you choose to remove them separately.
NewBase is an offline simple program that launches html files. We created it so families can run programs locally on their device without needing accoounts or the internet. It works the same as a browser such as chrome, edge or safari. It allows you to run these programs without the internet, an account or being tracked for your data, by tech companies. Below are HTML file apps you can run from any browser or offline in NewBase
